Its all in business

Chennai is a lazy city. Here, the shops open only at 10 or 11 AM and close by 8 or 9 PM itself, unlike Coimbatore, where some shops even open at 6 AM. Generally at Coimbatore, the shops open atleast by 9 AM and close by 10 or 11 PM.
Coming to the other side of business in Chennai, these r some things, which every Chennai-ate wud have come across.

1. Chudis named after movie names and actresses.
For eg. there will b a chudi in the name of a movie(which means the female lead artist is supposed to have worn a similar kind of chudi in that movie). But there has been sometimes, where in the heroine wudn't have worn a chudi at all, and wud have resorted to modern dresses(read as lesser clothing).

2. With a cone of boiled groundnut in one hand, I entered Ranganathan Street last week. I wanted to buy a one-way bag(some single color, other than black). But this guy in the shop tried to convince me that red and black looks gud, and commented, "If u put on this bag, u will look like Jyothika in Manmadhan"(well, for ppl who dont have the GK of Tamil movie world, Manmadhan is a movie, in which Jyothika has acted). Hey, no thanx, I am not in the lookout for Surya!
(And curious ppl, I dint buy that bag).

3. One day, I was passing by the platform shops in Pondy Bazaar. There were 2 girls who were bargaining with the shopkeeper as he said some very high price for a nightie. So the shopkeeper said, "This is Simran nightie"(?????!!!!!)
But what I liked more was the one of the girls' reply. She quipped,"Then how will I fit into it?"

Is that guy in point number 2, a blind one? Probably any lady voice these days seems to remind him of Jyothika.

Chennai! Lazy? Come On! No way. If you want to see what laziness is go and see Bangalore or Delhi. Had you the habit of visiting Chennai road side tea shops, you'd know.

Even in Bangalore, the little guys are not that lazy (but its too cold for even ghosts... at times like 6 am!) so they open around 6.30 / 7 am.. But the big guys will open for business about 10ish - all the people in cars can reach the business place only after spending a lot of time cursing the roads and traffic.(But its my honest opinion that cursing in the traffic situations in Bangalore is almost non existant from the drivers. Two reasons: most dont know kannada.. secondly feedig off traffic Jam is a way of life). Same goes for chennai?.

In cbe the opinion is that its kind of a bad habbit to get up any later than 6 am. The weather is pleasant in the morning and the evening naa? so shop keepers have to make the best of it.May be the same must happen in chennai - on the account of weather (But most cars have A.c and shops too??).. so the little guys make the best of nature. The middle guys always have a choice.

Then there are those early birds in bangalore who want to enjoy the quiet roads and go to office early... keeping odd hours just to escape traffic..Then there are those who can walk to the office..

Coming to the topic:
Fathima, the shop keeper was right. U are as "Big" a person as jyothika.
I have not seen the movie manmadhaan .But what i have seen in other movies suggest that she is becominga "bigger" artist at an alarming rate.

How could u have rejected Red? i am disappointed!

Number three must have been u - i am convinced ;-)

Hey just kidding!
Funny stuff! (not funny when u dont know how to say no to a sales man!! I have nightmares of such things. I am afraid to go shopping!)

Banglaore is the laziest of them all. I remember the TIMES (CAT coaching center) organizer saying that they had cancelled morning classes in Bangi coz ppl who had registered never used to turn up !

You can rarely find a cyber cafe open here after 10 pm. In CBE, most cyber cafes are open atleast still 12:30

Prabu Karthik,
Coimbatore compare panna Chennai lazy thaan. Chennaila morning 11 A (at 5 AM) busla ponaa, there r no more than 3 travellers. But at the same time, any bus is cbe will have atleast 5 to 10 ppl at that time.
As everyone wake up late & try to catch up during rush hr, there is a lot of traffic, though there r a lot of buses.

Hmmm coming across clothes named after movies or heroines is almost a surety (oxymoron ?:) ) if you have gone clothes shopping in Chennai.
The latest one i saw was "Chandramukhi" sarees.
